About St Serf’s Players

The club works as a team of many parts – with room for all. Behind the on stage acting there is the director (very important) who converts his ideas into reality on the stage. Backstage crew who are responsible for the design of the scenery, lighting and sound. Props and costumes, who are responsible for supply of the items required to ‘dress’ the scenery as well as the actors. Front of House who are responsible for the audience interface, safety and of course the refreshments.

Each of these elements have different demands on time with the director, stage manager, set designer, sound and lighting being involved all through the rehearsals, planning towards the production, and could extend over 12 weeks. The actors, of course, are required throughout the rehearsal period up to 12 weeks. Practical aspects of set build, costumes and props over 6 weeks and Front of House mainly the week of the show.

In each role, there are many levels of skill required and plenty opportunity to share and learn – as well as socialise. So there are different levels of involvement and many members support the rehearsals.
